Ingredient Spotlight

Olive leaf extract in Neuro Serge

What is it?

Olive leaf extract is derived from the leaves of Olea europaea, the olive tree. It's typically standardized for oleuropein, a polyphenol compound believed to be responsible for much of the leaf's antioxidant activity, along with related compounds like oleanolic acid.

What's been studied?

Most olive leaf research has focused on cardiovascular and metabolic health. A smaller, more recent body of work has looked specifically at cognition:

  • Study type: Human randomized controlled trial (the GOLDEN Study)
  • Population: 55 adults diagnosed with mild Alzheimer's disease, ages 55–85 (23 completed the full study)
  • Intervention: A daily olive-leaf-extract beverage plus Mediterranean diet guidance, vs. Mediterranean diet guidance alone
  • Duration: 6 months
  • Outcome measured: Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) score
  • Result: The extract group showed essentially no decline (mean change close to 0), while the control group declined by 4.1 points (p=0.0135)
  • Limitations: Small sample, high attrition (less than half completed), short duration, and the population studied had diagnosed Alzheimer's disease — not general adults looking for everyday focus support

What this means for Neuro Serge

This is one of the stronger pieces of ingredient-level evidence in the Neuro Serge formula — a positive, statistically significant human RCT result. It's still a single small trial in a specific disease population, using a beverage format and dose we cannot confirm matches what's in a Neuro Serge capsule.

What it does NOT prove

It does not prove that Neuro Serge itself — a capsule with an unconfirmed dose of olive leaf extract combined with five other ingredients — will replicate this result in a general adult population without diagnosed Alzheimer's disease. Ingredient research is a starting point for plausibility, not a substitute for testing the finished product.

See the full ingredient breakdown or the evidence library for how this compares to the other five ingredients.
